Mesothelioma sufferer aided by alternative medicines

Alternative medicines to help?

A diagnosis of Mesothelioma is not a good thing and the life expectancy of sufferers is shorter when compared to people who have been diagnosed with other forms of cancer. Whilst there is no direct cure for Mesothelioma at this moment, it appears that sue of certain alternative medicines are bringing an element of relief to some sufferers.

It should be remembered that every sufferer is different and what works for one person may not work for another. This is the same for all cancer sufferers and is why there needs to be an individual examination of all cases.

The Lake Cowichan Gazette stated that Marie Augustin turned to alternative methods when she was too weak to face normal procedures for tackling Mesothelioma. Chinese herbal remedies have long been viewed as an important way for people to improve their health and Augustin has used fruits from the Pawpaw to improve her condition.

Some of the reasons for this may come from the findings of the Purdue University;

“Extracts of paw paw are among the most potent of the 3,500 species of higher plants screened for bioactive compounds in our laboratories…[they have] powerful cytotoxicity, in vivo antitumor, pesticidal, antimalarial, anthelmintic, piscicidal, antiviral, and antimicrobial effects…encapsulated extract has been effectively used by certain cancer patients as a botanical supplement product.”

Anything that can give Mesothelioma sufferers assistance in prolonging their life and maintaining a quality of life should be encouraged so it is hoped that this can help those afflicted by the disease.

Mesothelioma concern over Texas bus station

A bus station can be a vibrant hub of any town or city. Whether it provides the opportunity to escape or the best way to get home, a bus centre can make all the difference for an area.

It tends to be one of the places where most of the population will pass through, so many local governments or councils try to ensure they are as good looking and attractive as possible. This means that many councils or firms are keen to update and upgrade their bus stations.

Brownsville, Texas is just one location that is upgrading its bus station but there has been a slight hitch in the construction of the new bus station. Before work can begin on the new bus station, a number of buildings have to be demolished.

And before these buildings can be demolished, asbestos has to be removed from these buildings. Although asbestos is not commonly used these days, in many older buildings, it was commonly used amongst many other building materials.

Asbestos is a toxic material and one that is a common cause of Mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is a type of cancer that is found in the lining of the abdomen or the chest.

It is considered to be one of the harshest forms of cancer and the life expectancy of anyone diagnosed with Mesothelioma is not good. In the United States of America, the average life expectancy of someone diagnosed with this form of cancer is around two years.

The bus station is a major project for Brownsville and the total cost of the project is said to come to $14m. The removal of the asbestos is said to have added an extra $50,000 to the cost of the project. During these harsh economic times, this is a sum that any organization could do without but the project would not be allowed to continue without the removal of this asbestos.

Mesothelioma concern in Brooklyn school

The latest concern about Mesothelioma has arisen in Brooklyn, New York.

Lafayette High School is the location for the latest outbreak and again, exposure to asbestos is the cause for concern. If you are unaware of the problems with asbestos, it can be quickly explained as saying it is a carcinogenic type of material that can be found in old buildings.

The problem occurred when a contractor who was employed to work in the building tore out a pipe that was wrapped in asbestos. With students and teachers in the building at the time, there was a possibility that a number of them may have affected by the asbestos.

The biggest concern is over the fact that it is alleged that the contractor took the debris through the building, walking past the school cafeteria along the way. The problem was exacerbated by the fact that no one was informed of this problem until the following day.

This meant that students and teachers could have walked these corridors, breathing in the air. If the teaching staff and students were informed of this situation, the corridor could have been closed off, with people being asked to take alternative routes to their classroom.

As it only takes a small amount of exposure to asbestos to have potentially fatal consequences, this situation is one that should not have occurred.

Mesothelioma, which is one of the rarer forms of cancer, can be caused by exposure to asbestos. There may be less than 3,000 sufferers of Mesothelioma in the United States of America but it is considered to be one of the harshest forms of cancer.

The average life expectancy of someone who has been diagnosed with Mesothelioma tends to be about the two year period, so its is clearly a very serious matter.
